“The Look Out”
This painting is a collection of the Birds of Paradise I have come across over the years. They seem to appear almost as colorful birds, not flowers. Birds of Paradise seem to always be on the look out. A regal blossom.

“Na Pua Nānā Lā”
For many years Maui was known for the sugar cane and pineapples that were grown through out the island. Those days have passed, but new crops are blossoming in the fertile soils of our island. Where once there was pineapple, a new "Maui Gold" has blossomed in fields of sunflowers.

"Garden Pets" was the first in this series, The painting "White Birds" is number two. I love this painting. The image seemed to leap onto the canvas. It felt as though the energy of the painting flowed through me.
I am very proud of this piece, it was chosen to be one of the featured paintings at Art Maui 2007. I was very honored.

“Excuse Me, While I Kiss the Sky”
Plumeria fascinate me, so many shapes and colors . I took the idea for this painting from a "Curly” plumeria. Gentle flowing curves with hazy purple overtones and the sky leaning down like an eager lover.

Plumeria in the morning sun. I am greeted every morning by the scent of our yellow and white Plumeria. This seven foot tree was started from a small branch I bought from our local High School. The blossoms from this tree are small, strong, have a very sweet fragrance and make beautiful leis.

“Garden Pets”
The house was Indonesian, open airy and located next to the ocean in Kailua. It had a magical garden where I discovered this beautiful large plant which I call White Birds. The strong lines invited me to gaze a little longer. These flowers seemed to keep watch over this beautiful garden. This is the first painting in the series.

Almost nothing touches my heart to the same degree as does the ocean, I love taking pictures of the surfers as they dance and play in the
majestic surf that so often touches our island home. Here a surfer works his way to the line up at Ho‘okipa, but for now he is "Inside."

When I think of Hawai‘i I think of the Hawai‘i I found when I first arrived here in 1966. Most of that is gone now, but hidden away you may still find bits
of that Hawai‘i, such as this home in Hā‘iku. With chickens of course
